Why is our internet provider lookup tool acting goofy?

hey everyone, so we've got this little web tool, 'What is My ISP? - Find Your Internet Service Provider', and it's been acting a bit goofy lately.

• it's supposed to give you your internet provider, but sometimes it just shows the wrong one, or even 'unknown'.
• this inconsistency in its ISP detection is kinda frustrating for users.
• just wondering if anyone else has run into similar issues or has some rock solid methods for accurately identifying a user's internet provider?

any pointers for better accuracy would be super helpful. thanks in advance!
