cPanel administration woes

hey guys, been struggling with a weird cpanel thing after our last update. it's really messing with our website maintenance routine and overall managed services for clients. getting a strange error when trying to manage certain user accounts, specifically when attempting to change DNS records or modify service limits. i'll drop a fake error log snippet here to show what i mean:
[2023-10-27 14:35:01] ERROR: cPanel::User::Modify::DNS_ERROR: Failed to update DNS records for user 'client_user': Permission denied.
[2023-10-27 14:35:02] WARNING: Account 'client_user' service limit modification failed. Check ACLs.any ideas what might be causing this or how to fix it? anyone faced this before?2 Answers

I understand this is frustrating; we've seen similar issues with cPanel user privileges after recent updates, which can definitely disrupt managed services and client website maintenance. The errors you're seeing, specifically "Permission denied" and the call to "Check ACLs," strongly indicate an issue with either the cPanel account's assigned package, its feature list, or the reseller's Access Control Lists (ACLs) if `client_user` is managed by a reseller.
Here are the steps you should take to diagnose and resolve this:
- First, log into WHM (WebHost Manager) as root or an administrator with full permissions.
- Navigate to 'Packages' -> 'Edit a Package'. Select the package assigned to 'client_user' and ensure that 'Edit DNS Zone' and 'Modify Account' features are enabled within its feature list. Save any changes.
- If the user is a reseller, go to 'Resellers' -> 'Edit Reseller Nameservers and Privileges'. Verify that the reseller managing 'client_user' has the necessary WHM access control permissions to modify DNS records and service limits for their accounts.
- Sometimes, an update can corrupt an account's configuration. Try rebuilding the user's data by going to 'Account Functions' -> 'Manage Account Suspension' in WHM, temporarily suspending the account, and then unsuspending it. This often forces a refresh of its configuration files.
- Review the main cPanel error logs in WHM under 'Server Status' -> 'cPanel Log Messages' or directly on the server at
/usr/local/cpanel/logs/error_logfor more specific details around the time the errors occurred. This can provide deeper insights into the root cause.

Answered 23 hours agoHey MD Alamgir Hossain Nahid, yeah, checking the package features and reseller ACLs totally fixed that permission denied error, so thanks for that. But now I'm seeing something kinda strange with email accounts on those same client domains, like some email forwarders aren't working right after the update. Not sure if it's related to the cPanel user setup stuff or something else entirely.
